Vijayawada, January 18
Even before the row over tollywood director Ram Gopal Varma’s Vangaveeti movie was subsided, tension prevailed once again in Vijayawada after unidentified persons destroyed the statue of late Congress leader Vangaveeti Ranga at Ajith Singh Nagar. Protesting against the flexie incident, dharnas, rasta rokos, protests were held on a large scale by Radha Ranga Mitramandali.
Vangaveeti Ranga’s son Radhakrishna convinced the members of Mitramandali. Though the incident subsided for the time being, it may trigger tension again, according to sources.
Kapu community people alleged that TDP cadre had vandalized the statue of Ranga.
After this incident, Tollywood actor Chiranjeevi’s fans staged a rasta roko in Atapaka village as unidentified persons have damaged the flexie of the actor’s movie ‘Khaidi No 150’ in the village of Kaikaluru mandal in the district.
The fans took out a rally from Atapaka to Kaikaluru, in which YSRCP leaders and activists also participated, giving a political touch to the dispute.
The government became alert and issued strict warning that stringent action will be taken against those resorting to destroying statues, flexis and other misdeeds.
