Vijayawada, January 20
The construction works of flyover at Kanaka Durga temple are going on at a snail’s pace. Soma construction company took the deal and agreed to complete construction within eight months. But the way the works are progressing raises doubts whether the flyover would be completed by June this year, as per schedule.
Utter negligence is told to be the reason for the delay. Commuters travelling in this route are facing troubles and eagerly waiting for the works to be completed.
Central Minister Nitin Gadkari laid foundation stone for the flyover works in December 2015, with an estimated cost of Rs 447.80 crore.
Soma company was endorsed with the construction of flyover along with four-lane road widening works. The company has to complete the works by December 2016. But the works are still going on due to delay in land acquisition and officials’ apathy.
51 pillars have to be constructed on 2.55 km road in front of the temple. So far 45 pillars were constructed. Of the remaining pillars, three have to be constructed in Krishna River, two in the canal and one on the road.
Flyover approach works are yet to start. Traffic congestions on Hyderabad, Bhadrachalam and Mylavaram roads would be eased if the four-lane road works are completed. It has become a hectic task for the buses and passengers to reach Pundit Nehru bus stand and railway station in Vijayawada ever since construction work started.
