Visakhapatnam, February 2
The Union budget has disappointed North Andhra people over Vizag railway zone, who alleged injustice is being done to them since ages.
Despite the assurances by ministers and leaders, there is no progress in railway zone for Vizag. The Centre is neglecting its assurance in Bifurcation Act.
Protesting against the Centre and State governments’ apathy, several people led by Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) leaders staged a dharna in Vizag. Police foiled the dharna and arrested a few CPM leaders and activists.
The Vizag locals questioned “the Centre has given tax exemption to farmers on the capital properties after selling their lands in capital city. But forgot to mention Vizag railway zone issue.”
The demand for Vizag railway zone that gives a financial boost to Vizag, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts has been going on since a few decades. The locals requested that the north Andhra districts would develop if their region is identified as special railway zone.
But the rulers have limited themselves to assurances only and not bothered to implement them, the north Andhra people bemoaned. They decried injustice meted out to them during the tenure of both UPA and NDA governments.
They demanded the secret understanding between the Chief Minister and Prime Minister in this issue. They warned of launching agitation against the Centre and State governments. ‘We will fight for special railway zone for Vizag along with CPM,’ they stated.
