Swine flu cases are increasing in Visakhapatnam even as temperatures are soaring. About one month ago, a woman of Salipet died with swine flu and several cases with symptoms of the diseases are coming to light.
The district administration immediately responded and set up screening centres at 11 areas and arranged special wards in government ID hospital and KGH. Swine flu patients are being treated here.
It was reported that daily three to four people with swine flu symptoms are getting admitted in both government and private hospitals. Doctors are providing treatment to those who were positive with swine flu symptoms and discharging the remaining people.
At present there are 35 swine flu suspected cases in various hospitals in Vizag city. Of these three swine flu cases are confirmed. Reports of a few more patients are yet to come.
A naval officer of INS Kalyani Quarters was suspected to have swine flu symptoms and he was under treatment in a private hospital.
The health officials said that there are more suspected swine flu cases from the city. Officials are on high alert since thousands of people from all over the country are visiting the city to attend Visakha Utsav. A special stall was arranged in the Utsav to deal with any emergencies.
Till date samples of suspected cases were sent to the virology labs in Tirupati and Hyderabad for testing and it would take three to four days to get the reports. But now a virology lab was set up at KGH to test the samples. With this, the reports could be out within a few hours.
