Bhimavaram, January 6

Countdown has started for rooster fights that would be organized during Sankranti festival in both Godavari districts. The punters are happy that the cock fights will commence from January 13, on the day of Bhogi festival. Cock fight organizers are busy in fixing time for the fights.

Meanwhile, following high court verdict banning cock fights, there are doubts about conducting these fights this year. 

But it should be pointed here that cock fight organizers are organizing demonstrations with cocks requesting the government to allow the traditional cock fights.

The district administration took all measures to prevent the cock fights. Special official teams were constituted at mandal-level. 

Police are filing bind-over cases on betters and taking the persons who are rearing cocks along with the cocks and putting them behind the bars.

BJP leader Kanumuri Raghurama Krishnam Raju resorted to Supreme Court seeking permission for organizing cock fights. The court may give its verdict on Friday

Amidst court case and ban on cock fights, almost all rooms in hotels in East and West Godavari districts were reserved for betters from other states and countries.
