Kadapa, January 11
Pulivendula constituency in Andhra Pradesh State enjoys special prominence. The ruling Telugu Desam Party has been trying hard to win this constituency, which was represented by late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy earlier and now by his son and YSRCP chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy. As part of its plan, TDP promised to supply Krishna waters to Pulivendula. Local party leader Satish Reddy even vowed not to shave his beard till the area gets Krishna waters.
In fact, supply of Krishna waters to Pulivendula has been on table since the tenure of YSR. Accordingly, Pothireddypadu project and Gandikota reservoir works also started.
But the governments that ruled the State after YSR neglected the issue. Now the TDP government once again took up the issue and speed up works related to the project.
Due to heavy rains last year and completion of Pattiseema project, Gandikota reservoir is getting more than 1,000 cusecs of water. TDP government fulfilled its promise by completing Paidipalem Lift irrigation project which supplies water from Gandikota reservoir to Pulivendula.
After a two-day trial run, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu will formally start Krishna water supply to Pulivendula on Wednesday morning.
