Chennai, May 13
DMK chief Karunanidhi’s 94th birthday is going to be a grand celebration in the next month. His family members are making elaborate arrangements.
Karunanidhi’s daughter and parliament member Kanimoli personally inviting national leaders and giving invitation card to them. She met Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and non-BJP senior MPs and invited them to Chennai for the occasion.
DMK working president Stalin also personally calling them local leaders and inviting them to the party. But DMK has not invited BJP leaders and Stalin explained that BJP is opposing Dravida agitation and hence they are not inviting that party to the programme.
The BJP has announced their first job is to eliminate the Dravidian movement and we don’t want to create an uncomfortable situation inviting them to share the dais with our leader,” said Stalin.
Karunanidhi’s 94th birthday celebrations will be held on June 3. He, who has been a five-time chief minister of Tamil Nadu has been staying away from politics due to ill health. Hence DMK decided to celebrate his birthday and invited leaders of Congress, RJD, JDU and other non-BJP leaders.
This programme will become a venue for the non-BJP parties to hold a meeting ahead of general elections in 2019.
After Jayalalithaa’s death BJP has focused on Tamil Nadu and opposition parties were alerted. They are trying to form a united front to give a stiff competition to BJP in 2019 elections.
On the other hand, Dravida movement in Tamil Nadu has become a challenge to national parties. Since 1960 no national party came to power in Tamil Nadu. Now BJP is trying hard to occupy the hot seat in 2019 elections.
