Chennai, February 15
After V K Sasikala’s conviction in disproportionate assets case, unexpectedly Palaniswami name came to the forefront. He was chosen as the legislature party leader as Sasikala lost the chance of becoming the Chief Minister.
At present holds Highways and Minor Ports Ministry and represents Edappadi constituency in Salem district. He is a four-time MLA from Edappadi.
He was first elected as MLA in 1989 and won the last two Assembly elections. He is very loyal to Jayalalithaa and shifted his loyalty to Sasikala after the former’s demise.
Palaniswami name was also mentioned for the CM post when Jayalalithaa was undergoing treatment. Sasikala wanted to make Palaniswami as the CM but Panneerselvam was made the CM, who is the most loyal MLA to Jayalalithaa.
The caretaker chief minister Panneerselvam and Palaniswami were never on good terms with each other. Palaniswami backed Sasikala when Panneerselvam revolted against Sasikala’s elevation as AIADMK’s legislature party leader.
Sasikala made Palaniswami as legislature party leader after the court convicted her in Disproportionate Assets case.
“Whether the Governor will give a chance to caretaker CM Pannerselvam to prove his strength in the Assembly or invite Palaniswami to form the government” has became hot topic in Tamil Nadu politics.
