Chennai, February 17
The game is now over for O Panneerselvam, who revolted against AIADMK General Secretary VK Sasikala Natarajan days after the death of J Jayalalithaa. His long cherished dream of continuing as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu was shattered after Governor C Vidyasagar Rao appointed Sasikala’s nominee Edappadi K Palanisamy chief minister. Why Panneerselvam Failed ?
The biggest mistake of Tamil Nadu outgoing Chief minister O Panneerselvam to lose the CM chair was his revolt against VK Sasikala, which cost him even the caretaker CM position.
The political drama took off at late CM Jayalalithaa’s grave, 12 days ago. Panneerselvam resigned to his post and handed over the CM reigns to Sasikala and later cried his heart out before the media that injustice done to him.
Even though Panneerselvam has been repeatedly boasting of MLAs support to him since the beginning, he never showed his strength. He was alone without a single MLA to back him when he revolted against Sasikala. Later eight MLAs supported him.
Panneerselvam even told the Governor that all the MLAs are supporting him. But his words went weak when Sasikala presented the Governor with a list of MLAs’ signatures.
Including Sasikala group, everybody had doubts why Panneerselvam was so confident without the support of legislators and that someone from backstage is running the show. Till date only MPs have supported Panneerselvam, who pinned his hopes on Central government.
But he failed to face Sasikala’s political game. He failed to gather MLAs support and could not utilize many chances that came his way. He was left behind Sasikala in the camp politics.
