New Delhi, January 27

As many as six soldiers were killed after snow avalanches that hit Gurez sector. Soldiers dug out a jawan’s body buried in snow.

A few soldiers were still buried under the snow when reports last came in. While locals rescued seven soldiers.

Three soldiers, including a major, died as snow avalanches hit army base on Sonamarg of Ganderbal district on Wednesday night. Another four soldiers were severely injured.

With heavy snowfall over the last two days, there have been multiple avalanches in Jammu and Kashmir. Normal life was paralyzed. Vehicular traffic was disturbed due to landslides. Army announced that rescue operations are continuing for the missing soldiers.

Snow Avalanches

The avalanches are coming in the way of soldiers who are doing their duty in extreme cold weather.

The Srinagar-Jammu highway was blocked due to heavy snowfall. Vehicles which transport essential goods to the State got stranded on the road causing problems to the locals.

The officials assured of controlling the prices of essential commodities which rose due to non-availability. Temperatures in Ladakh and other areas in Kashmir division fell drastically.
