Kolkatta, January 4
Even before Trinamool Congress (TMC) gets relief from the recent Saradha scam, Rose Valley chit fund scam is at its back.
CBI officials arrested TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay in connection with Rose Valley chit fund scam. The CBI announced of Sudip’s arrest a few hours after an enquiry.
CBI had issued summons twice in December to Sudip in this case. He could not attend the enquiry as parliamentary session was going on at the time. Hence the CBI issued summons for the third time and held enquiry.
Sudip is the second party MP who was arrested in this scam. MP Tapas Pal was arrested on December 30 last year. Tapas was the director of Rose Valley company and there were allegations that the company has cheated several persons to a tune of about Rs 17,000 crores.
Protesting against the arrest of Sudip, Trinamool Congress activists attacked the BJP office in Kolkatta. Responding over the incident, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that the Centre is resorting to retaliation since they have opposed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetisation drive. She said these arrests would not deter them and will continue their fight against note ban.
