Hyderabad, January 2
Telangana Telugu Desam Party (TTDP), which faced several problems with defectors in 2016, has something to feel happy about finally. The party got huge response to its membership drive in Telangana State.
At a time when the ruling TRS leaders commenting TTDP is a closed chapter in the State, the seven lakh membership registrations is a fitting answer, the party leaders observed. The huge membership registrations have rejuvenated the party activists. According to information, seven lakh people have taken party membership.
Meanwhile, Telangana party is considering suspending leaders, who showed indifference towards the membership drive.
About seven lakh members had joined the party during the membership drive in 2014 before the general elections also. More members joined in twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad which reflected in Party MLAs winning in these areas.
Later, 15 MLAs and Malkajgiri MP Malla Reddy defected from TDP and joined the ruling party after the TRS launched ‘Operation Akarsh’. The TRS leaders canvassed that the TDP is going into oblivion.
In this situation, the party membership drive, launched from November 1 last year got a huge response. The drive was slowed down after demonetization was announced on November 8. Again it speed up after party chief Chandrababu Naidu held a review meeting with Telangana party leaders on November 27.
