Hyderabad, May 12
In a major development in the case of gangster Nayeem, DGP Anurag Sharma suspended five police officials for their alleged links with the gangster.
The suspended police officials are Additional Superintendent of Police (CID) Maddipati Srinivasa Rao, ACP Malineni Srinivas, ACP (CCS) Chintamaneni Srinivas, Kothagudem SI Rajagopal and Sangareddy traffic inspector Mastan.
Nayeem name became popular when he, as a maoist, killed DIG Vyas in 1993 in LB Stadium. Later he was arrested and kept in jail when he came to Yadagirigutta to carry on an operation.
He had continued in people’s war group (PWG) until the attack on Gadar in 1997. Later, he got offended over a PWG former naxalite’s misbehavior with his sister and complained to Sakhamuri Apparao, who was in jail.
Neither PWG nor Apparao responded to his complaint. At the same time, naxalites had killed Nayeem’s brother Alimuddin. After these two incidents, Nayeem came out of PWG and became closer to police with his anti-naxalite activities.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) found out that Nayeem had close relations with about 16 senior police officials. But it has not revealed whether these cops did settlements along with Nayeem or not.
Maddileti Srinivas name was made public as having close relations with Nayeem on several occasions. Departmental action would be taken against 25 cops. Five senior police officials were suspended and enquiry will be held against four. Another 16 police officials were given minor punishments.
