Hyderabad, January 2

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) stood in top position in property tax collection and is now planning to double up cashless transactions in the city.

It has arranged swiping machines at the 18 citizen centres presently working, for paying tax with debit/credit cards. These swiping machines were handed over to the staff working at citizen service centers in the circles.

After launching the system, GHMC Commissioner Janardhan Reddy said people can now pay property tax, trade license, town planning, and advertisement taxes without any problems.

Already many of the citizens are using digital payments. Out of the 1,241 persons, who paid property tax in the last two days, 870 paid tax through online and Mee Seva centres.

GHMC would supply swiping machines to bill collectors at field level also. They are planning to collect tax at consumers’ residences itself and issue a receipt also. Machines have been ordered for the purpose. The GHMC, which has been collecting taxes by promoting lucky draws and targets, is aiming to earn more revenue through cashless transactions.
