Today (November 30) is the last day for Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 currency notes and from Thursday onwards these notes will not be accepted at RTC, railway, petrol bunks, government hospitals, medical shops, gas cylinders, government loans. The toll gates will resume fee collection from December 1.
To give relief to the public after demonetization, the government extended the deadline to November 30 to pay certain services including tax with old currency notes. the dead line for exchange of old notes will not be further extended after December 30. But these notes could be exchanged at RBI office till March 17, 2017.
The Centre announced that there are Rs. 500 notes worth Rs. 1716.50 crore and Rs. 1,000 notes worth Rs. 685.80 crore on November 8. The Centre directed the banks to distribute Rs. 100, Rs. 50, Rs. 20, Rs. 10 notes.
