Hyderabad, January 18
One more person died of swine flu in Hyderabad, taking the toll to nine since August 2016. This is the second death due to swine flu in 10 days.
According to health officials, a total of 2,956 samples were tested. Of these, 142 samples were found positive. On Monday alone, 46 cases were tested and six out of them were found positive. One person died while undergoing treatment for swine flu in Hyderabad Gandhi hospital.
The government sought private hospitals’ cooperation to the measures being taken by it to control swine flu. The private hospitals management are requested to conduct medical tests to the patients with swine flu symptoms and should admit them as inpatients and keep them away from other patients, until the medial reports come.
The government suggested sending the samples of the patients to Institute of Preventive Medicine, with patients’ phone number and address and also starting medication. Officials said sufficient stock of medicines was available at all teaching hospitals, and district and area hospitals.
Doctors said people should take all precautions since the winter season might continue for another month.
The health department has advised people to approach the hospital at onset of the first symptoms of swine flu like high fever, sneezing, cough and body ache.
