Hyderabad, January 16
Telangana government is adding many feathers to its crown. After occupying second place in ‘e-governance’ in the country two days ago, the government stood in first place in Aadhaar related payments in National Rural Employment Guarantee works.
The State is already leading in providing works under employment guarantee scheme. It has been taking measures since some time to put a check to the irregularities taking place in labour payments.
The government linked Aadhaar card of every worker and made Aadhaar related payments, thus preventing payment irregularities.
There are about 55.9 lakh job card holders in the State. Aadhaar numbers of 96 per cent of labour, i.e., 53.4 lakh workers have been interlinked and payments to 50.33 lakh are being made based on Aadhaar linkages.
Compared to the country’s average, Telangana State is leading in both these issues. The Central rural development ministry recently clarified that payments would be made from April to only those workers whose Aadhaar number was linked with the scheme.
The TRS government directed the officials to complete the linkage process before January end. The officials observed that irregularities could be prevented since the wages are directly deposited in the workers’ accounts.
