Hyderabad, February 9
The Telangana government, keen on increasing the students strength in government schools, has prepared a schedule to launch Prof. Jayashankar’s Badi Bata programme.
Instead of the usual date of reopening of schools on June 12, the Government has decided to start classes as early as March 21. A draft for 2017-18 academic year was prepared with the help of senior officials of the Education Department.
The Government sought teachers’ unions to submit their suggestions and opinions on this draft before February 9.
The Badi Bata programme will be launched in two phases, on par with private schools. The first phase will be from March 21 to 28 and the second phase will be from June 1 to June 9.
Also, proposals are on the anvil for mass ‘Aksharabhyasam’ in all schools across the State on March 24. Summer holidays would be from April 23 to June 11 and schools will reopen from June 12. The Government is providing all basic facilities in these Government run schools.
In order to attract more students to Government schools, the State Education Department is going to introduce new programmes. Along with regular classes, students will be taught, among other things, vocations such as handwriting, sports, art and craft from March 21.
