In the wake of reports of misusing the facility of payment through old currency notes at petrol bunks and airports, the Central government announced on Thursday that old notes will not be allowed from December 2 midnight. The toll tax also will be resumed after the midnight of Friday.
Earlier, the customers were allowed to pay old currency notes of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 to purchase freight tickets till December 15 and also at petrol bunks.
As per the government decision, old notes will not be accepted at petrol, diesel and gas stations from December 3 onwards. But these can be paid to get railway and bus tickets and other consumer tax payments, till December 15.
Toll tax payment can be done through debit/credit card and Rs. 500 notes will be accepted if the toll amount is more than Rs. 200. Swiping machines were supplied to all toll plazas.
