Hyderabad, February 2
It appears like Telangana Telugu Desam Party (TTDP) is racing ahead of the ruling Telangana Rashtriya Samithi (TRS) by starting preparations for the next general elections. There are several questions like is TTDP aspiring candidates list ready? What is the first qualification to get party ticket? How many have this qualification? What are the promises given to these eligible candidates? Who are in the second list?
There is still two and half years time for the next general elections. But TTDP senior leaders put a test to the aspiring candidates now. They assured tickets for those who win this test. The leaders are promising the candidates that it is their responsibility to get tickets for them by convincing party chief Chandrababu Naidu.
At present, TDP membership drive is going on in the State. The deadline for the drive concluded on December 31 with seven lakh new members in Telangana, which is slightly more than last year.
After several MLAs and senior leaders have defected, the very existence of the party was at stake. This made TTDP leaders very keen on joining more members. Even though the deadline was over, they took special permission from Chandrababu Naidu to continue membership drive in Telangana for one more week.
The leaders are fixed to raise the membership drive from seven lakh to more than eight lakh. They put targets to the constituency in-charges. They told the party leaders that they should join above 10,000 members if they want ticket in 2019 elections. They are promising tickets for those who join at least 10,000 people.
The leaders even said that they will not neglect the constituencies where the membership drive crossed 10,000 limit even if the party makes poll alliances with other parties.
Now the membership drive has crossed 10,000 limit in 25 constituencies. Between five to 10,000 members joined in each of another 50 constituencies.
As per the TDP leaders’ assurance, tickets are confirmed to 25 leaders. Compared to other districts, membership drive in Nizamabad, Adilabad, Medak and Karimnagar districts is lagging behind.
