Hyderabad, January 12
In the wake of Telangana government’s warning to striking contract lecturers to return to duty, will the lecturers call off their strike? If not, what will be the government’s next step?
Contract lecturers of junior colleges launched a strike demanding implementation of minimum salary policy. The government stated that a GO was issued to increase the salaries by 50 per cent. But the contract lecturers said they cannot withdraw their strike without any assurances over their demands and added they will call off the strike only after holding discussions with the government.
Meanwhile, the government is reportedly gearing up to take action if the junior college contract lectures fail to join duties before the deadline set by it.
The government will issue show-cause notices to those lecturers who do not join duty on Thursday. If this happens, then as per rules, contract lecturers will become ineligible for regularization of services.
The government is taking the contract lecturers’ strike on a serious note as intermediate exams are just one month ahead.
