Without officials’ supervision, sand mafia became rampant in Warangal like that in Adilabad district. Officials have reportedly been helping sand smugglers to transport 10 to 15 tonnes of extra sand per truck.
Mining, revenue and police departments are not bothered about the sand mafia. None is checking how much sand is being transported and there are no bills at weigh bridges.
Normally there will be 24-hour time limit after taking channel on a number through online. But here trucks are making two trips per day. The situation turned worse as five to 10 trucks sand are being transported to Hyderabad per day on a single number.
Sand smuggling is going on in Wajedu, Mangapet, Chenchupalli, Eturunagaram and Kaleswaram mandals of Jayashankar district, with the reported help of police. The same is the situation in Warangal urban circles. The officials are busy in distributing their shares, it was alleged.
The warning of imposing PD act and other rules against those who cause loss to government exchequer are remaining on paper only. These rules are nowhere getting implemented.
It was alleged the undaunted illegal sand transportation from Godavari river in Mangapet Eturu Nagarm is causing road accidents also.
Some people are selling sand for high prices labeling ordinary sand as Godavari river sand. The clashes between groups of sand smugglers at sand reaches are leading to murders.
There is an urgent need for the mining, police, revenue and Telangana Mineral Corporation officials to stop the sand mafia at least now.
